With a mother who teaches English and a grandmother who used to teach French, she grew up surrounded by a deep appreciation for languages. This environment sparked her passion from an early age. She attended a language high school where she studied French, Spanish, and English, and later earned a degree in Linguistic Sciences at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, graduating with highest honours with a focus on Russian and English. After completing her studies, Giorgia moved to Australia with the goal of pursuing a Master’s degree in Teaching, a path inspired by the rewarding experiences she had as a language educator in Italy. Over the course of four years, she worked as a private language tutor, taught French at a French cultural centre, and worked in a private early childhood school where she introduced children, aged 3 to 10, to the English language. LibrInsieme hosts a series of vibrant and inclusive reading groups (boob club). Focusing on contemporary and modern Italian literature (in Italian) we offer not just group reading and discussions, but also live online discussions with the actual authors of the books that we read. Book Club LibrInsieme Since November 2020, LibrInsieme convenes every two weeks via Zoom, in the early evening, to discuss, comment on, and occasionally critique the books we've collectively chosen to read. We select contemporary writers of all genders, not necessarily widely recognised, and extend invitations for them to participate in our concluding session. Typically, they join with great enthusiasm, fostering enriching and stimulating exchanges as we delve into their work. Each book undergoes scrutiny over three biweekly meetings: an introduction to the book and its author, a group discussion, and a final online meeting with the author live from Italy. Participants read the novel at their own pace and engage in discussions via Zoom during the early evening hours, usually on Wednesdays. Our reading group is diverse. Fluency in Italian is not a prerequisite for participation; rather, a comfort with reading novels suffices. For those inclined, there's also the opportunity to propose a new book to the group. We prioritise creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can freely express themselves. Meetings are recorded solely for the benefit of attendees unable to attend. As participants to the DASS Bookclub we are members of the jury of the Dora Nera award for best noir novel of the year. We reads, discuss and votes which of the 7-8 books finalists will be awarded the prize. The literary award is part of the Festival of Noir Culture held in Turin in November. Book Club Dora Nera Since 2022, from mid-July to the end of August, we have been serving as members of the jury for the Dora Nera award for the best noir novel of the year. A smaller group of readers than usual (not all are fond of this genre, but there are true enthusiasts and aficionados) reads, discusses and votes on which of the 7-8 finalist books will receive the prize. Alessandro Mariolini Tutor Book now Bio Alessandro comes from a small city in the Northern Italy – close to Bergamo – where he obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in European and Panamerican Languages and Literatures, with a focus on Italian, English, Russian and Spanish. After study periods, internships and teaching experiences in the US, Russia, and Australia, he chose to settle down in the latter in 2018. He has been teaching to adults and adolescents, both with private and group lessons. Deeply passionate about Italian culture, Alessandro makes his lessons as fun and relaxed as possible, using a variety of approaches in order to enhance the student’s learning experience. As a former language student himself, he knows that everyone is different and thus tailors each lesson to meet the needs of the student. Apart from teaching, he loves reading, watching movies, hiking, writing, and cooking. Famous (he says…) for his decadent, gluten-free ricotta and amaretti crostata, which is just like the Italian language: one bite and you’re hooked. Italian born tutor Paolo Massimo Marino will help you learn Italian. Paolo Massimo Marino Tutor Book now Bio Originally from a small Calabrian village, Paolo earned a Bachelor's Degree in History of Cinema and Humanities from the University of Perugia. Following his studies, he gained hands-on experience on film sets alongside renowned Italian directors. He honed his English skills in the UK, working as an au pair and serving as an unpaid college reader. While completing his Master's Degree at the University of Bologna, he gained early teaching experience assisting migrants. In New York, he completed the DITALS training to certify his skills to teach Italian as a foreign language. In Rome, he served as an ISA tutor, providing linguistic and logistical support to American university students. After relocating to Sydney, he managed hospitality venues while launching his private Italian teaching practice. He expanded his teaching career in Australia to local language institutes, instructing students of diverse backgrounds. Extensive travel across Europe, North America, and Asia has deepened his intercultural sensitivity, allowing him to bring a flexible, innovative approach to every lesson.
