Italy Meets Australian First Nations Peoples

What happens to stories when they travel across generations, communities and cultures?

Who carries them forward, and whose voices are heard?

On 2 September, the Aboriginal Dance Theatre Redfern opens its doors for a special evening of encounter and exchange between the Italian community and Australian First Nations Peoples.

Through storytelling, archival materials, poetry, artworks and conversation, the evening will explore memory not simply as something belonging to the past, but as a living practice, carried across people, places and generations.

Guests will discover fragments from almost five decades of history held within the Aboriginal Dance Theatre Redfern; hear reflections on First Nations cultural objects held in Italian museums and the questions they raise around knowledge, ownership, identity and memory; and encounter stories and perspectives connected to this remarkable place and its community.
