PLIDA Arte Italiana flyerPLIDA stands for PROGETTO LINGUA ITALIANA DANTE ALIGHIERI, it is a Government approved program of certification of Italian language proficiency developed by the Dante Alighieri Society - Rome.

The Dante Alighieri Society is one of three Italian institutions officially authorised to certify foreign students in the Italian language. La Dante has developed PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri), a program specifically designed for adults studying Italian as a second language. The Society has a wealth of experience, with over a century of teaching thousands of students around the world.

We are proud to announce that our Society, here in Sydney, has been authorised by La Dante in Rome to organise formal written and oral examinations for the official certification of students. We are the only Italian school in Australia qualified to undertake this task.

PLIDA examinations take place twice yearly in May and November, worldwide, at dates set by the Dante Alighieri - Rome. Examinations will be conducted at our premises, in Bathurst Street, Sydney.

A non-refundable fee is payable to sit the exam.

The PLIDA program closely follows the pattern of the Common European Framework for Languages (Quadro Comune Europeo) dividing learners into three broad categories:

A = Basic User
B = Independent User
C = Proficient User

These are further divided into six specific levels:

PLIDA Common European Framework
A1 Livello di contatto A1 Breakthrough
A2 Livello di sopravvivenza A2 Waystage
B1 Livello Soglia B1 Threshold
B2 Livello Progresso B2 Vantage
C1 Livello dell’efficacia C1 Effective Operational Proficiency
C2 Livello della padronanza C2 Mastery

The Dante Alighieri has developed a very detailed syllabus to address each level and we offer a specific program of instruction for anyone wishing to sit the Certification Exam, either as private tuition or in a small class setting.

Please contact our office on 02 9283 0261 or e-mail for further details regarding times and costs.

PLIDA methodology adopts a communicative approach based on practical activities ranging over various settings, from personal and family contexts in the lower levels, to highly specific communication for professionals in the more advanced.

Each of the four basic abilities: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing - is addressed and assessed separately.

The length of the examinations varies according to the levels and goes from 90 minutes for A1 level to a max. 210 minutes for level C2.

Special Certifications - Juniors (for adolescents) and Commercial (more specific to the business fields) are also available.
